Demographic change - the ageing of the workforce and the shrinking number of new entrants to the workforce, will start to affect all industrialized countries in the coming years. In 2006, the Adecco Institute launched an annual Demographic Fitness Survey, measuring how well prepared companies are for this impending change. The index measures companies' offerings, and employee adoption of, tools in five key areas: Career Management, Lifelong Learning, Knowledge Management, Health Management and Age Diversity. Companies can prepare to handle demographic changes in the workforce by increasing their awareness of the age structure in their organization, and by improving their "demographic fitness".
